Videostroboscopy at Alabama ENTVoice Lab

Early Detection & Treatment

Of the nearly 40,000 new cases of cancer reported by the American Cancer Society in 2002, roughly one fourth were cancers of the larynx. Complete diagnosis, early detection, and treatment of disorders and diseases of the vocal cords and larynx are now only a phone call away. Our new, state-of-the-art videostroboscopy lab—one of the few of its kind in our area—allows us to observe, film and assess vocal cord structure and performance through slow motion video imaging. Videostroboscopy provides precise identification of smaller lesions, and detailed examination of vocal fold movement, and allows us to professionally diagnose and treat most common laryngeal disorders, including:

chronic cough
chronic hoarseness
reflux
vocal cord nodules
voice loss

Our board certified otolaryngologists, working in conjunction with Monica Franklin, our own on-site, licensed and certified speech/language pathologist, can isolate and assist in the diagnosis and treatment of most voice disorders. This combined medical team now allows us to coordinate speech therapy and medical and surgical treatment. We are excited about this new arsenal of services and look forward to providing this needed assistance to patients referred by our health care colleagues in the Birmingham area, as well as serving the professional world of singers, speakers and educators whose voice is an indispensable tool in their vocation.
