Hearing loss is typically gradual, invisible, and almost always painless, sometimes developing slowly over a period of up to 30 years. That's why those who suffer from it are frequently the last to recognize and admit it is a significant problem. Because hearing is a vital component of communication, impaired hearing always effects our social lives, especially our closest friendships. It can also contribute to misunderstandings due to partial hearing, heightened stress and even unnecessary fatigue from strained prolonged listening, not to mention missing out on life's subtleties, like music and nature.
